Background

Nyan~ Neko Sugar Girls

Koneko-chan makes her first appearance in Episode 01, enjoying mochi ice cream alongside her best friend, Raku-chan. During their journey back home, they meet Hitoshi-san. The two introduced themselves and formed a newfound friendship with him.

A few days later, Koneko-chan and Raku-chan left to visit the Kawaii underwear chan store. As they were leaving, they were startled by the cries coming from Hitoshi-san, who was kidnapped and trapped inside a blue van. The two immediately chased after the van striving to save him. Koneko-chan and Raku-chan arrived at the kidnapper's "secret lair" and broke through the window to save Hitoshi-san. Their attempt was successful, and Koneko-chan tied the kidnapper up. Hitoshi-san thanked the two and went back home.

The next morning, Koneko-chan wakes up on a sunny day and intends to go to the store. On her way, she bumped into Hitoshi-san, and mentioned to him that Raku-chan thinks he's "really sugoi." Hitoshi-san and Koneko-chan learned of Raku-chan's sudden illness and decided to bring her Dancing Sushi in the hopes of making her feel better.

The following day, Koneko-chan contacts Raku-chan to express her concern about her illness and suggests that they visit a vet together. As they made their way, they bump into Hitoshi-san, who accompanies them to the vet. As they arrived at the clinic, they were introduced to Vet-sama, who conducted a couple of tests to find out the reason for Raku's sickness. It was discovered that she had contracted rabies as a result of the squirrel bite. Upon hearing the diagnosis, Raku-chan was extremely saddened, prompting Hitoshi-san and Koneko-chan to attempt to lift her spirits by offering mochi ice cream and green tea.

Subsequently, Koneko-chan bought Raku-chan a present. On her way back home, she saw Raku-chan, passed out, lying down on the grass, and was so stunned that she dropped the gift. Koneko-chan brings Raku-chan home and places her on her bed. She leaves Raku-chan alone in her room to make her some herbal green tea. Once she came back, she was shocked to see that Raku-chan had left her room.

She informs Hitoshi-san that Raku-chan has gone missing. Koneko-chan and Hitoshi-san desperately search everywhere to find her. After searching extensively for Raku-chan, they end up getting drenched in the rain and come across a large group of dogs barking at a gray cat. Koneko-chan hissed at the dogs, which caused them to leave. The two then come to realize that the cat being attacked is Raku-chan, and they bring it to Hitoshi-san's home.

Koneko-chan comes up with the idea to spend as much time with Raku-chan as possible before the rabies completely takes over. Koneko-chan and Hitoshi-san take Raku-chan on an amusement park, and placed Raku-chan inside a bag. During their first ride on the roller coaster, Raku-chan unexpectedly transformed back into her human form. After experiencing several rides and having a good time at the miniature beach, Hitoshi-san escorted the two nekos back to their home.

The next morning, Koneko-chan awoke from her sleep and found Raku-chan had transformed back into a cat. Because Raku-chan had no recollection of her best friend's identity, she aggresively hissed at her. Koneko-chan takes Raku-chan to the vet, and encounters Hitoshi-san on her way, who comes with her. Upon their arrival at the clinic, Vet-sama conducts tests on Raku-chan, and concludes that Raku-chan was being possessed by a bakeneko (化け猫). Vet-sama transforms into a shrine maiden and administers a ritual to temporarily heal her. At home, Raku-chan transforms back into a human and Koneko-chan reassures her that everything will be fine.

At the late hour of 3 A.M, Koneko-chan wakes up and hears a thud coming from Raku-chan's room. She immediately checks up on her and finds her passed out lying on the floor. Koneko-chan saw the "tsubasas" (翼 wings) making a reapparance, despite Raku-chan being back in her human form. Koneko-chan hurriedly brought Raku-chan to the vet, only to find the door locked, so Hitoshi-san forcefully opened it. Much to Koneko's dismay, the clinic was empty. They decided to wait there until Vet-sama returned.

Vet-sama arrived at the clinic sometime in the morning. Koneko-chan informed her of Raku-chan's situation, and Vet-sama invoked a spell to contain the bakeneko for a period of at least one day. However, Vet-sama made it clear that this was merely a provisional measure, warning them that it could potentially be the last day of Raku-chan's life.

The three enjoyed a day of shopping and attending a night festival in their kimonos. Hitoshi bid them farewell as it grew late, and they all returned home. Raku received a visit from her college friends, who had heard about her illness on Facebook and wished her a quick recovery. They had a brief conversation at Raku-chan's home before leaving. Koneko-chan prepared a meal for Raku-chan after they left, which she appreciated. Feeling fatigued, Raku-chan decided to retire early for the night.

Once the two woke up, Koneko-chan found Raku-chan free from the bakeneko's possession. Raku-chan wanted to tell Hitoshi-san how she really felt about him. With the support of Koneko-chan, they went outside and approached Hitoshi-san. Raku-chan requested for Koneko-chan to give them some privacy, in which she agrees to.

Raku-chan confessed to Hitoshi-san about her love for him, but before Hitoshi could respond, their conversation was unexpectedly disrupted by his kidnapper, whose name was revealed to be Bokutachi-san. Hitoshi-san told Raku-chan about him and Bokutachi-san's relationship. Raku was extremely devastated by this, began to cry, and fell to her knees.

Koneko-chan hurriedly rushed to her side. Raku-chan fell in Koneko-chan's arms. Hitoshi-san knelt by her side. In her last moments, she expressed her gratitude for the love and companionship she had been blessed with, said her heartfelt goodbyes to her dear friends who had been with her throughout her journey, and met her demise shortly after. Koneko-chan and Hitoshi-san were overcome with deep emotional distress, their eyes filled with glistening tears, mirroring the agony in their hearts.
